Our Giving Tree

Thanksgiving is past us, but gratefulness and giving can carry on. I love the idea of giving (and not just during the "holidays"). Our giving tree is a tradition and one that started way before I started teaching at HCP. I've continued it because of the value it instills in young children ---
giving to others
As I was explaining the "giving tree" to the MWF class about how we would collect food items to put under our tree and then give to HRC who provides food for families who may not be able to buy food for their family. A child responded with: "That's really sad. I'm going to tell my mom to buy food so I can put it under the tree". And that's what it's all about.
Here is our tree. Thank you for your donations.

Arboretum Field Trip

A few weeks ago (because I am late in posting this...), the MWF spent the preschool day at the Arboretum. There is something about nature that is calming, peaceful and of course, beautiful!

We loaded up the preschool wagon with paper, nature crayons, water, cups, snack bags with trail mix, etc. and walked down College Drive to the Arboretum. I intended to take pictures of us walking there, but that didn't happen, so you'll have to imagine it!
After we arrived, we sat and used our 5 senses to take in nature. We then drew pictures of what we saw in nature, walked around and explored, ate a snack, played some running and parachute games, and lastly, we collected various nature items and stuck them on our fancy duck tape bracelets to bring home. Great, great day at the Arboretum.
Reading the book, "Colors of Nature"
Using our 5 senses

What do you see?
Draw and color what you see.....

The texture of the sidewalk added a neat touch to the nature pictures.

~Thank you God, for your magnificent creation!~

Happy Halloween!

Dressing up in costumes is sure fun!!

Shop Day - Wednesday

We've been looking at the Hesston College Map all week and know where the preschool is. What else is in the Laban Peachey Center building????
A super - big shop!!

SHOP DAY!! The kids were completely impressed.

safety goggles. check.

Mr. Tim - tool and wood guy!!

Mr. Tim sanded this piece of wood to make it smooth.

love the pink goggles.

Tim is going to make something special. Can you guess what it is?
Cutting a piece of wood. It's a little loud. We stayed waaaaayy back!

Now, Mr. Tim cut out a curve in the wood

sanding is next so the wood isn't splintery.

then it's time to cut out 3 holes in the wood.

And finally, tires. He used wood glue.

Guess what we have? A new wood bus for the preschool class. So cool.
We may or may not paint it. That's up for debate.

And Mr. Tim cut out awesome wood leaves for each child that they got to take home.
What a special time in the SHOP!!
Thanks, Mr. Tim!

Campus Visits Tuesday afternoon

On Tuesday afternoon we had a snack in the Larks Nest, visited Charles Hall (the science building) and played on the rocks and trees. Fun afternoon!!

A picture under the buckeye trees

They weren't quite sure about this tiger skin...was it real?

So many birds!

And rocks!!!

Look up. There's a bull head. Wow!

Some are smooth and some are rough.

Monkeys in the tree

climbing with ballerina shoes on. Impressive.

campus visits on Tuesday morning

On Tuesday we enjoyed a snack in the Larks Nest, visited Ms. Kaylah's room and got to play at the rocks and trees. It was a full day exploring the college campus.

Snack is first!!

Then up the stairs to Ms. Kaylah's room
We walked up to the 2nd floor!
Everyone noticed the Frozen poster right away!

And finally. The rocks and trees.
Pure enjoyment.
