Just a readin'

What a sight it was to look over in the library area and see cushions laying out on the floor, quite a few children laying down on those cushions, and a teacher laying there too, reading a book!

It's great to have extra "teachers" in the class to
help create moments like this.

This is Ms. Sarah H. (Tue am)

scarves

Aren't we stylish with our scarves?

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

This cutie told her mom she wanted to wear a scarf to preschool because
Ms. Larisa wears scarves. Made my day. :)

basketball game

MWF Student Assistant, Ms. Bethany Snow, plays Women's BB for Hesston College. They had their last home game last Wed., so there were a few fans watching the game. :)
here's the cheering section (and Ms. Larisa)
This guy is great with numbers - he kept track of the score the entire first half!!!

Ms. Bethany in action!

Ran into these three sillies after the game!

fire safety

Fire Safety week is officially in October, but we decided to wait until now. Chad Widener is a Sedgwick County Firefighter and approached me to do these presentations while his children were in preschool. I know we have other firefighter dads out there too. Chad got special permission from the Hesston Fire Department in order to come and visit our class.

What we learned this week:

  • Matches, lighters are dangerous and should only be handled by an adult
  • Make a "fire plan" to have an outside meeting place once you get out of the house
  • Get out and stay out (leave favorite toys, pets, etc. behind....:))
  • Make sure you have smoke alarms (and check the batteries 2 X a year)
  • stop, drop and roll
Most importantly, we had a visit from a firefighter and what fun that was!

Mr. Chad and his two preschoolers!

Mr. Chad talked about his fire gear

high - fives for the firefighter!

Now it's time to be jr. firefighters

even girls can be firefighters. love the red circled paper with the fire truck.

Jr. FF assistant in the TR AM session

the firefighter crawled around with his gear on!
Mr. Chad talked to us about how to be safe

putting out fires throughout the preschool. the guy on the left was putting a lot of fires out - he would ask, where's a fire? and then he promptly went and extinguished it!

valentines

It's the end of Valentine's week! There was a lot of buzz and excitement this week - there is something very special about giving and receiving valentines. The house area was transformed into a Valentine Station - making valentines using words and stamps! The kids also got to decorate their own valentine bag with loads of valentine stickers (which was filled with the good stuff Thursday and Friday!)
Here is a glimpse of our week: (I was completing assessments during the MWF sessions, so forgive me if there are not any photos from that session!)

a valentine joke:
knock, knock
who's there?
olive
olive, who?
olive you!! (get it?! :))

making valentines at the Valentine Station!
Ms. Sarah H. helping us make special valentines.

in the tub

Wouldn't you just love to sit in a tub and have somebody read to you?
This is a favorite for kids.
This group finished their small group activity and had a few minutes to read a book.

work at preschool

Kids are often pretending to "work" at preschool. They enjoy the play keyboard, phones, paper, pencils and other supplies.
Here is a perfect example of work at preschool. She is ready for you to call.

protractors and preschool

I found some bargain protractors in the .10 cent bin at Walmart and so they made there way to the preschool. We are not quite learning about Geometry, but we are using them in our drawings and that is way more fun than Geometry by far!

clip board. protractor and pencil. ready to draw.
this is serious business you know.

that protractor makes lots of "D's"

love the colorful one here.

Protractor fun!!

hats and writing

Who is behind the hats? Can you guess?! They are busy writing on the white board.

Team Day!

Some of us are fans of Kansas teams and others have other favorite teams, but we all came together one day and wore a Kansas shirt - or not!
It is an action to get everyone (even teachers) to look at the camera at the same time, hands down, sitting/standing straight. oh well.

MWF class

Tue-Thur AM
We tried very, very hard!

Tue-Thur PM did wear shirts, but we did not get a picture.

happy birthday Kansas!

Kansas' officially birthday was last
Thursday, January 29 - 154 years old!

We decorated Kansas birthday cakes with paper punch outs and candles!

drawing a jayhawk on his cake - a true Kansan! :)

bubbles, bubbles, bubbles!

Can you say bubbles? This by far has been the most exciting small group activity in the history of small group activities. The key was to not pop the bubbles. Oh, so tempting though. The bubble mixture: glycerin, soap and water! We used droppers and cut off the end to make it open so the bubbles were bigger.

double-bubble!
