Tuesday happenings

The ECE 201 students planned and are leading the ART activities all week. I'm sharing photos of the art each day because they are very creative and unique. Enjoy!
Ms. Cheyenne found the quote that is on the art for today, Tuesday.

The teacher traced the child's hand as the "tree". Then the children glued on hearts.

pink playdough and 3D heart collages

It's the start of Valentine's week....

Today we played with pink play-dough. We were busy cutting, pressing, rolling and cutting out heart shapes.

We also made 3D heart collages. Ms. Angela planned and led this activity. She retrieved this idea from www.teachpreschool.org
First the children chose the color paper they wanted to use and then rolled it (A good fine motor strength building activity !!) and glued it on black paper. They turned out really neat.

Post Office at preschool

This week has been short because of snow
days, but despite the snow, we have been busy playing "post office". The house area was set up with envelopes, sticker stamps, index cards and other paper, pens/pencils, markers and boxes. I encouraged children to write notes/letters to friends in the class or family members. (You may have already received some of these notes) And they went to work!

Which envelope should I use? Ms. Rachelle is writing the words on our notes.

Here are the mail bags they made on Monday. (Thank you, Dillon's for donating the paper bags)

Kansas weather

Okay. You can blame the snowy weather on us. We have been chanting this "Winter Rhyme" for the last month, in hopes of a day just like this! Isn't it lovely?

Winter, Winter come our way
Bring some snow for just one day
Make it cold and make it white
Snow would be a lovely sight. (so true)

Last week we were singing about Sunny Kansas. go figure.

Sunny Kansas goes like this:

Oh, we're from Sunny Kansas, Sunny Kansas, Sunny Kansas
Oh, we're from Sunny Kansas. The best state of all.
Where it rains some, and snows some, cyclones come and it BLOWS some.
Oh, we're from Sunny Kansas. The best state of all.

What can we say? :)

Flying kites and wheat

We finally  made it outside to "test" our kites. They did blow in the wind. Thanks, Kansas! :)

Gotta love wheat. On Friday we  learned all about wheat. It was fun to play with it in the sensory table.

And then we made our own individual (homemade wheat pizza crust) veggie pizzas. yum.

Look at all those veggies.

Adding homemade ranch dip and veggies

Tastes great!!

More of Kansas

Then there was fishing for Kansas symbols, wind experiments, and we even made special Kansas pictures with paper cut outs and candles.
In case you are wondering about Kansas symbols they are: Buffalo (state animal), Sunflower (state flower), Honey Bee (state insect), Box turtle (state reptile), Home on the Range (state song), Cottonwood tree (state tree), and Salamander (state amphibian).
"fishing" for Kansas symbols

BLOW!!! Making our own wind.

Making bubbles with water, soap and air.

add drops of water color and blow!

see the bubbles?
We are a mixed bag of sports! (KU, K-State, and Shockers)
To help celebrate Kansas - it was Kansas team day.

Go Shockers!

Happy Birthday, Kansas!

Kansas is 153 years old. According to one child - it should be dead if it's that old. :) It's hard to explain that Kansas is a state not a person to young children.

We have been learning all about Kansas this week. These pictures capture the different "symbols" that are a part of Kansas.

First off...Monday we learned about wind and tornadoes. And Kansas didn't disappoint with wind. oh my! We made kites, but it was too windy and cold to try them out - outside anyway. We improvised.

Coloring our kites. It's serious business.

A new way to fly kites. Indoors. oh well.
