Family Friday

It's the end of the Week of the Young Child and we have sure enjoyed each day! Today each child brought a picture of their family. During circle time we share about our families (waiting and taking turns was encouraged).  We also made a family graph to see how many family members each of us had.

Sharing about our families during circle time:

Our family graph

"MY FAMILY" picture

The children really focused and worked hard drawing the members of their families, including labeling who each person was.
We kept them for their portfolio books.

Happy end to Week of the Young Child and early learning!!!!

Art Museum - TR PM

Just like the AM session, we too had to visit the Art Museum. We enjoyed a snack outside before our adventure began.

hello ms. ladybug on my stocking.

The rain held out for us to enjoy a snack outside.

Mr. Friesen was working in his studio - chiseling a piece of wood. Super cool!
The kids thought the tool he was using was sure loud.

Observing. What do you see?

Some saw a sunset. A rainbow. Wrinkled paper.
Everyone saw something different. Apparently we can't look at the camera. :)

Since it was a small group - we took time to look longer at
some art pieces to discuss what we saw.
It was interesting how we saw different things.

It was a great Artsy Thursday!

Art Museum - TR AM

Because it was Artsy Thursday, we had to visit the Friesen Fine Arts Building on campus -- the "ART MUSEUM".  It was quite the adventure.

A real art studio!

I had the children move waaayyyyyy back,
it made me a little nervous with all of these clay pieces.

We even signed our name along with kid comments.

Now Ms. Larisa can breath - we didn't touch or break anything!! YEAH!!!

Artsy Thursday - PM class

We started the afternoon reading the Eric Carle book, The Artist Who Painted A Blue Horse. If you haven't read this book, it is based on thinking outside of the box - none of the animals are "painted" in the color you would expect....yellow cow, red crocodile, orange elephant, polka-doted donkey, etc.
We spent most of our art time blowing bubbles - what a popping good time!! Plus, we easel painted outside and made our own unique stencil pictures.

Concentrating. Relaxing. Enjoying.

Look at all of the bubbles!! Love the expression here.

A mound of bubbles - it was touching his mouth.

What do you do with too many bubbles?!

A brown frog
A colorful bird

A lot of fun and silliness going on here.
They called this concoction -
soup.

She painted and painted and started adding lines - just like Eric Carle does in his books.....so cool!!

Artsy Thursday AM class

We started the day reading the Eric Carle book, The Artist Who Painted A Blue Horse. If you haven't read this book, it is based on thinking outside of the box - none of the animals are "painted" in the color you would expect....yellow cow, red crocodile, orange elephant, polka-doted donkey, etc.
Our day was full of artsy activities - easel painting outside, bubble art and tracing stencils, which they colored in different ways based on the book we read during circle. Busy, busy day!!

BUBBLE ART - First you blow bubbles

Then you lay a paper on top.
The bubbles pop and form really cool, pastel designs on the paper.

Easel painting out of doors.....ahhhh, so relaxing!

and more bubbles.....

Ms. Kaylah came to help since Ms. Sarah had to leave early. The children swarmed her and wanted to play with her. It was sweet - I think she felt loved.

It's a good thing I put towels down to soak up all of the
watery mess from the bubbles. :)

wacky wednesday

WackWednesday, what can we say?
Sometimes it's fun to dress a little wacky, different. Besides dressing funny, the preschool room was a little wacky too. We read Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss (of course!!) And we did wacky art activities outside on the playground, plus we ended the day with a picnic snack on the campus lawn and a fun-time playing on the Hesston Mennonite Church playground. We got some strange looks.....like, What?!?! Oh well.
We are proud of our wackiness.

What is out of whack here?!

taco tuesday

Day #2 We made some quite terrific chicken tacos today. The focus was on eating healthy foods. We sorted food items into healthy foods and not-healthy foods during circle time. By the way, the children were quite the experts when it came to sugary, not-so good for you foods. :) However, it is quite ironic how some children think that french fries are healthy foods...hmm, if only
The fun part about today was making our snack for art - how often do we get to eat our art?!

Chicken tacos:
1 rotisserie chicken (from Sam's - delicious!!!) cut into small pieces, diced tomatoes, sliced olives, shredded cheese, diced avocados, rinsed black beans, taco shells, and salsa.
Put it all together - yumminess!

adding tomatoes
lots of cheese please
happy eating!

yummy tacos!!!!
We don't have time for pictures. we are busy eating here.

there's always time for messy, slimy, sensory play
TR pm class eating tacos too....
It's a great day for running and rolling down the hill
